8 Black Nerd Approved Shows to Livetweet This Spring

American Crime-Regina KingThe holiday season has ended, and thankfully, that means original programming can return to our televisions. If you need help figuring out which shows you should record, check out our list of shows we will be watching and livetweeting this spring.

American Crime (ABC) January 6 #AmericanCrime

John Ridley’s critically acclaimed drama had us enthralled the entire season. It explored race in depth and in ways no other series has dared. That same bold storytelling is returning for season 2, but this time the lens is on sexual abuse and athletics in a small town high school. Many of the show’s original cast is returning in brand new roles (plus the one and only Andre 3000), and with the love and attention the show has received from upcoming award shows, expect them not to pull punches this season.

Black-ish (ABC) January 6 #blackish

Black-ish is easily one of the most apt TV show titles in recent memory. The show is a dependable home for hilarity, and there isn’t a single weak link in the entire cast. While Deon Cole’s Charlie will be missed (he made those office interactions sing), I’m sure Kenya Barris will keep the comedy train running.

MADtv 20th Anniversary Reunion (The CW) January 12 #MADtv

When MADtv premiered 20 years ago, it was the funnier, sharper, and more risque alternative to the long-stagnant SNL. Now, a bunch of the show’s alumni are returning to honor the landmark show that ran for 14 years. Ike Barinholtz, Alex Borstein, Mo Collins, Crista Flanagan, Anjelah Johnson, Nicole Randall Johnson, Keegan-Michael Key, Phil LaMarr, Artie Lange, Bobby Lee, Michael McDonald, Arden Myrin, Nicole Parker, Eric Price, Will Sasso, Aries Spears, Nicole Sullivan, Stephnie Weir and Debra Wilson will all be in attendance. And as long as I get a little Vancome lady, a bit of Stewart, some fire from Bonifa, and some shade from Ms Swan, we’re good.

Scandal (ABC) February 11 #Scandal

Scandal is still must-see TV on Thursday nights, and with {spoilers} her split from Fitz, it seems Olivia is ready to return to being the boss we came to love way back from season 1. And she’ll need to be at her best now that Rowan and Jake are in cahoots. Here’s to more gladiating!

How To Get Away With Murder (ABC) February 11 #DatMurda #HTGAWM

Through the first half of the season, HTGAWM teased us with the line #WhoShotAnnalise. Then we found out who: Wes. But that moment opened about 90 cans of worms as Annalise admitted to him that Rebecca is dead despite telling him she didn’t know anything for weeks, Wes shot her in the torso instead of the leg as planned, and Annalise muttered the name Christophe which prompted a flashback to a young Wes being questioned about his mother’s suicide as Annalise and Eve watch through a one-way mirror. I need answers people.

Underground (WGN America) March 9 #Underground

A show that uses the iconic Underground Railroad as its inspiration? Yes. Every yes. All the yeses there have ever been or ever will be. We’ve still got months until it debuts, so details are limited for now. Still, Jurnee Smollett is in a lead role, so expect fire.

Game of Thrones (HBO) April 24 #DemThrones

Is Jon Snow dead? Is he alive? Is he appearing in flashback? Who the hell knows. But after Cersei’s walk of shame, she will most definitely be out for vengeance. And will Daenerys return from the wilderness? Will Arya regain her sight? Will Jaime succeed at anything? It’s a lot to take in. And a show that has thrived in its more quiet moments looks like it is about to explode.

Orphan Black (BBCAmerica) April #DemClones

The Clone Club is back, and they are bringing more clones with them (from both from the Leda and Castor sides). The crew was granted so much happiness at the end of last season, but don’t be fooled into thinking they’d made it through the rain. The Neolutionists are still out there, Rachel has a new eye, and her mother (the other Professor Duncan that was supposed to be dead) has taken her in. Expect some next level pain in this new set of episodes.
